Vista and ActiveX Installation

I’m working on creating a Windows Installer XML package on Vista. So far I’m able to install everything on XP and Vista on my Mac under Parallels. However, the installer fails to register our ActiveX control on a standalone machine running Vista. Queries on the WiX mailing list seem to indicate the problem is with User Access Control (UAC), whereby even the Administrator doesn’t run with full Administrative priviledges (huh?).

Our old installer works just fine, and the software to create it almost pre-dates Windows XP. I don’t know how it’s getting around UAC, but it is.

I’ve posted another plea for help to the WiX users list. I hope they can help. This has taken up over a month of my time and I’m getting extremely frustrated!

New domain

Changed the domain, now I have a “real” blogsite. Here’s hoping I can manage this thing.

Giving in…

I gave up on iWeb being my blog authoring tool.  It was extremely clunky to upload a new post, as I had to upload the *entire site* if I updated anything.  Not only that, but iWeb was extremely inefficient in it’s space allocations.  That said, the rest of my posts will be on this site.   I may change the format, but now I don’t have to keep a local copy of my massive site as well.

More to come….
